CONVEY ’21 reconnects industry members in Omaha
CONVEY ’21, a joint effort of the NGFA, Grain Journal and the Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS), attracted 160 grain, feed and processing industry members to the Hilton Omaha Hotel on July 13-14.
The conference focused on operations, compliance and grain quality issues facing the grain and feed industry, including a general session on safety and grain quality/operations issues such as retrofitting after an incident, leading indicators, hazard assessment and grain storage. David Fairfield, NGFA’s senior vice president of feed led a session on the Food Safety Modernization Act and other U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issues. Attendees also participated in an interactive workshop walking attendees through best practices during Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections.

Bartek Drewnowski, COO at Degesch America, Inc., attended as an exhibitor in the CONVEY ’21 trade show.
“Participating as an exhibitor in the CONVEY21 conference was an excellent opportunity to reconnect with industry professionals in person and continue the journey of returning to our more conventional business interactions,” Drewnowski said. “The show was filled with experts in the field of grain operations with a focus on safety and compliance. In addition to networking with the exhibitors, the attendees seemed most impressed with the knowledge conveyed by the expert speakers during the various seminars and panel discussions. We look forward to joining CONVEY ’22 in Omaha!”
Eric J. Conn, founding partner of Conn Maciel Carey LLP and chair of the firm’s national OSHA Workplace Safety Practice Group, led a session on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) updates.
“The best in-person conference I’ve been to in at least a year and a half!” he said. “I’ve missed my friends in the grain industry, and really enjoyed reconnecting.”
Brian Wanzenried, director of environmental service at Gavilon, served as a panelist during a CONVEY ’21 general session on leading indicators.
“The CONVEY conference continues to be a requisite conference for grain elevators and processors,” Wanzenried said. “This year’s conference provided updates on the latest regulatory issues, new concepts in the environmental health and safety field, such as human and organizational performance, and leading indicators, as well as great operational information on grain quality and bin collapse. As usual, I left the conference with pages of notes containing great information and ideas that I need to share with my colleagues.”
Barb Grove of Central Valley Ag Cooperative serves as the 2021-2022 GEAPS International President.
“The CONVEY ’21 conference in Omaha this last week was a very refreshing start to live events for the agriculture industry,” Grove said. “The schedule of education sessions was a great mix of experienced industry panels and individual concepts to add to the success of a safety culture in each of our companies. Even if you weren’t a safety professional, the speakers gave very relevant suggestions that could be used across other divisions.”
